Great News From DanceBreak Alumni
Former DanceBreak choreographers are very busy and adding some serious credits to those resumes.
In alphabetical order......
Josh Bergasse, DanceBreak 2003, has been innundated with requests for his West Side Story. He choreographed this for the Barrington Stage, the Theater of the Stars, and Fulton Opera House. He also did And The World Goes Round for Barrington Stage and Smokey Joe's Cafe for the American Musical Theatre in San Jose as well as Beehive for Riverside Theatre.
Andy Blankenbeuhler, DanceBreak 2002, is going to see his Off Broadway hit In the Heights move to the Richard Rogers theater on March 9th, along with his Lucille Lortel, Outer Critics Circle and Drama Desk Award winning choreography.
Andy also choreographed Desperately Seeking Susan with music by Blondie, which opened November 15 at the Novello Theater in London's West End. He recently completed work on the NY workshop of Nine to Five with music by Dolly Parton, that opens in L.A this summer, heading to Broadway for the 2008-2009 season. Andy is most recently the recipient of the Joseph A. Callaway Award for Excellence in the craft of Choreography. Meanwhile, in his "real" life, eight month old son, Luca, is almost walking, but tearing it up in London and NYC anyway!
Anne-Marie De Angelo, DanceBreak 2006, will produce her fifth Gala Fundraiser for Career Transitions for Dance in October. She also has up coming projects with Rosie's Kids, Ballet de Monte Carlo and Nashville Ballet, all the while developing her own project Mix it Up!, for Spring 2008.
Kelly Devine, DanceBreak 2007, choreographed Frankenstein, The Musical which opened in October Off Broadway at 37 Arts. She is also working on a new musical Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson which will open at the Center Theater Groups Kirk Douglas Theater in L.A. Then she is on to Cabaret and Romeo and Juliet at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Canada.
Linda Goodrich, DanceBreak 2007, recently choreographed High Button Shoes at the Goodspeed Opera House in Sept. She is also workshopping a new play/dance piece that she has co-conceived and is directing and choreographing called A Good Boy with assist by Junkyard Dog Productions and..."I am, of course, in pre-production for the hot new NYMF show Platforms!"
Nick Kenkel, DanceBreak 2006, can currently be seen on the stage of Legally Blonde. Nick is the Assistant Choreographer for that hit Broadway show.
Nick is also one of five DanceBreak Alumni who were involved in the creation of a brand new musical Platforms for the New York Music Theater Festival. (NYMF) Platforms is a danced through musical with one storyline told by five choreographers.The others involved in that project, which received the NYMF 2008 Award for Excellence in Choreography were Linda Goodrich, '07, Jeff Shade, '05, Matt Williams, '04, and Ron De Jesus. '06
Robbie La Fosse, DanceBreak 2004, is signed to choreograph a new musical Dangerous Beauty about 16th century courtesan Veronica Franco, that will be directed by Sheryl Kaller. The show will open in Chicago and then head for Broadway in 2009.
Mia Michaels, DanceBreak 2004, won an Emmy Award (her second nomination) for her "Bench Dance" that was seen last season on the smash hit television show So You Think You Can Dance.
Mia was a choreographer and a judge this season as well as last, and many of her dances, for both the couples and the whole company have been audience's, as well as the dancers' favorites.
Rhonda Miller, DanceBreak 2003, choreographed two shows for NYMF: Gemini, The Musical and Austentatious with Stephanie D'Ambruzzo. Rhonda recently finished a music video directed by Margaret Cho for her new movie Bam Bam and Celeste.
CJay Philip, DanceBreak 2007, is currently in Frankfurt, Germany where she and her brother have written, directed and choreographed a new show called Carmen, A Bigger Bounce which is playing to sold out houses. Plans are underway to bring it to the USA.
Josh Prince, DanceBreak 2007, is on board to choreograph Shrek, The Musical produced by Dreamworks and directed by Avenue Q's Jason Moore. Although several DanceBreak's choreographers have gone on to sign Broadway contracts, it happened for Josh in record time. He got 'the phone call' just weeks after the DanceBreak performances.
Jamie Rocco, DanceBreak 2005, is currently the Vice President of Programming and the Producing Artistic Director of Ordway Center for the Performing Arts, in St. Paul, Minn. He recently directed and choreographed White Christmas for 5th Avenue Theatre, in Seattle as well as the Broadway Series, in Sacramento.Jamie was awarded The Seattle Times 2006 Footlight Award for his work on Wonderful Town. He also directed Love, Janis for theOrdway Center.
Lainie Sakakura, DanceBreak 2004, is currently living in San Francisco with her husband Alex Sanchez where they run a dance studio called Dance Theater Arts. Lainie is also teaching at Lines Ballet SF Dance Center, pursuing her BFA and expecting their second child in November.
Paul Stancato, DanceBreak 2007, wanted to add to the "There is more to life than just Sho Biz" category by announcing how thrilled he was to have married his "true love", Felicia Finley, May 5, 2007. He is equally as happy to report that, while acting as Resident Director for the National Tour of Lion King, he was tapped to take on that position with The Wedding Singer. He will soon add to his credits the first National Tour of The Great American Trailer Park Musical.
Lisa Stevens, DanceBreak 2006, is having great success with the stage version/ National Tour of High School Musical directed by Jeff Calhoun. That show has scheduled tour dates in the US and is also opening in London in Jan 2008 with a planned National Tour in UK.
