Edie Cowan began her career in the theatre as a performer appearing in the original

companies of three Broadway musicals: FUNNY GIRL, SHERRY! and ANNIE. She played

featured roles in three national tours: Lily St. Regis in ANNIE opposite Jane

Connell, Young Phyllis in FOLLIES opposite Vivian Blaine, and Josie Cohan in GEORGE M! opposite Darryl Hickman. Regional productions include leading roles in REDHEAD, BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE, DAMES AT SEA, BLOOMER GIRL and THE BOYFRIEND.

In 1982, Edie created the musical staging for the Off-Broadway hit, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS as well as subsequent productions in London, Los Angeles and the national tour. With the enormous success of LITTLE SHOP, Edie began directing and choreographing exclusively. Regional productions include FANNY at the Goodspeed Opera House, DAMES AT SEA at Pennsylvania Stage, BIG RIVER at the Pittsburgh Playhouse, MY FAIR LADY, FOREVER PLAID and NUNSENSE at Tennessee Repertory Theatre, WIZARD OF OZ and ONCE UPON A MATTRESS at Barrington Stage Company, THEY SHOOT HORSES, DON'T THEY? at Denver Center, SWEENEY TODD at North Shore Music Theatre, and FOREVER PLAID at Maine State Music Theatre.

University credits include HAIR at Carnegie Mellon, SMILE at the Hartt School, SWEENEY TODD at SUNY Binghamton, DAMES AT SEA at Indiana University, CITY OF ANGELS at Fordham, JEREMY AND THE THINKING MACHINE at Queens College and A WORLD TO WIN, an original revue celebrating the music and lyrics of Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick at New York University.

Edie has also directed, choreographed and taught several programs under the auspices of the State Department in such exotic locales as Madagascar, Mauritius, Hong Kong and Korea. In Japan, she co-choreographed an original revue called ON THE 5TH for the world-famous Takarazuka Company and in Romania, choreographed GODSPELL for the national theatre.

Recently, Edie appeared on television in Law & Order: CI, directed and choreographed many installments of the Atrainplays and co-choreographed the annual Inner Circle Show.

Ms. Cowan serves on the executive board of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and is a trustee of SSDC's Pension and Health Funds. She has previously served on various theatrical boards including the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation, the League of Professional Theatre Women, the council of Actor's Equity and the board of directors of Career Transition for Dancers.
